This academic year has got off to a flying start! We are pleased to announce our best results for the second year running. The achievement of all our students at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level is a testament to their attitude towards learning and their desire to do well. The learning culture at Methwold High School is now fully embedded and learning is at the heart of everything we do.

Our new colleagues have settled in well and have already told me how much they enjoy working at our school. They appreciate our sense of community and the way in which every individual child is supported and guided. This term Mrs Skeels takes on the new role of Key Stage 4 Leader, supported by Mrs Britton as Key Stage 4 Mentor. Mr Goode has taken over responsibility for Behaviour and Attendance and Miss Turner is the Leader of Learning for Transition (Year 6 to 7).

We have recently reorganised our school into five Learning Communities, each named after Olympic cities. This is to tie in with our application for Specialist Status for Sport, which we expect to achieve this Autumn term. On achieving this status we will gain extra funding from the government to improve our facilities for our young people and the community. Within our five Learning Communities, students are arranged in small vertical tutor groups. Smaller tutor groups will enable us to monitor the academic progress of individual students more closely. We also hope that this structure will increase our communication with parents.

As you will have heard from the media, the government has introduced the 14-19 Reform. For Methwold High School this will mean that from September 2009 students will have access to Specialised Diplomas in Construction and the Built Environment and Business, Admin and Finance. We believe that a more diverse curriculum at Key Stage 4 will meet the needs and interests of our students.

I am confident that we will have yet another successful year at Methwold High School and we look forward to the celebration of becoming a Specialist College for Sport.
